In 1994, former Salisbury University student Kristine D. Erwin collected folk material. Her paper tells the story of her family who left Maryland to embrace the Hawaiian culture. Several accounts of personal narratives (wedding, passing a Hawaiian name to a non-Hawaiian child), superstitions (volcano eruption on a wedding day, curse from stealing lava), myths and traditions are discussed. Photographs of flowers enclosed.
